FAQ
Why a low-carb or keto approach?
Low-carb and ketogenic approaches help stabilize blood sugar, reduce cravings, improve energy levels, and support sustainable weight management. Many people find this way of eating helps them feel less “controlled” by food and supports long-term health markers such as improved insulin sensitivity, balanced hormones, and reduced inflammation. In short, this type of approach is known to improve metabolic health, and this is what I wish for everyone to experience.
Who is this approach beneficial for?
A low-carb or keto approach may be particularly helpful for people who:
-
Are managing insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes, or metabolic health concerns such as PCOS or gestational diabetes
-
Struggle with sugar cravings or energy fluctuations
-
Want to support weight management with less hunger
-
Prefer a whole-foods lifestyle that reduces processed foods
Emerging research also suggests it may support improvements in symptoms related to auto-immune conditions, certain neurological disorders, and peri-menopause; however, results vary and it is important to work with health professionals to address these complex issues. This eating style can be adapted for families, busy parents, and anyone seeking practical, sustainable nutrition changes.
Can a low-carb or keto approach work for vegetarians?
Absolutely—vegetarian and even vegan diets can be adapted to fit a low-carb or ketogenic framework. The focus shifts to nutrient-dense, plant-based foods like non-starchy vegetables, eggs, full-fat dairy, nuts, seeds, tofu, and tempeh. With proper planning, it’s possible to enjoy the metabolic and health benefits of low-carb living while honoring vegetarian preferences.
Why work with a coach instead of a dietician?
As a Nutrition Network Coach Practitioner, my role isn’t to prescribe or clinically treat but to guide, empower, and support clients in making realistic, lasting changes. Coaching is about behaviour, mindset, and accountability. While dieticians focus on medical nutrition therapy, my focus is on education, practical strategies, and helping you take consistent daily actions that fit your lifestyle and preferences.
Will you offer meal plans as part of your services?
No, I don’t provide prescriptive meal plans. Instead, I guide you toward whole-food choices and share tried-and-true recipes, time-saving kitchen strategies, and family-friendly dishes I’ve personally tested. This approach is flexible, ensuring food works for you and your household rather than forcing you into a rigid template. It also help support a long-term adoption of the low-carb/ketogenic lifestyle.
How do I get started?
The first step is booking a free discovery call. This no-pressure conversation allows us to get to know each other, discuss your goals, and see if we’re a good fit to work together.
How is coaching different from just following a diet?
Diets usually offer a “one-size-fits-all” set of rules. Coaching, on the other hand, provides a personalized approach where you have guidance, accountability, and support when challenges come up. It helps bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it consistently in daily life.
Do I have to go fully keto to work with you?
Not at all. While I use low-carb and ketogenic principles, every client’s journey looks different. For some, a moderate low-carb approach works best. We’ll adjust together based on your lifestyle, preferences, and how your body responds.
I've tried keto or low-carb before and it didn’t work for me. Why should I give it another try with a coach?
It’s common to experience temporary side effects like the “keto flu” (fatigue, headaches), constipation, or even a keto rash when switching to a low-carb or ketogenic diet. These happen because the body is adapting to a new fuel source and changing its metabolism. Without proper guidance, these early weeks can feel discouraging.
With a coach’s support, you can start slowly and strategically to minimize or prevent most side effects. Coaches are experts in this way of eating and know how to tailor the approach to your individual needs, helping you navigate challenges and stay on track. Having accountability and personalized education makes a big difference in successfully transitioning and achieving lasting results.
Can this approach work for families?
Yes. I specialize in making low-carb eating practical for families. You’ll learn how to create meals that keep kids happy while still supporting your own health goals. That might mean balancing lower-carb proteins and vegetables for adults with optional starchy sides for children (see my September 2025 Newsletter where I share what a weeknight dinner looks like for our family).
Do you work with clients in person or online?
Coaching is offered virtually or in person, so you can work with me from anywhere. Sessions are conducted via video call for convenience and privacy or in my home office. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.
How long do clients usually work with you?
Most clients benefit from a structured package over several weeks or a few months to create lasting change. The length of time depends on your goals, but the aim is always to equip you with skills and confidence that last beyond our coaching sessions.
